The Renaissance of Harris Scarfe
There were positive signs in the Large Format Retail sector in August with the opening of a new Harris Scarfe Home store in Victoria. Located in HomeCo Northland, the new store is a welcome addition to the retailer’s store network and the first to open since the Harris Scarfe business was acquired by the Spotlight Group in March 2020.
Sitting alongside other retailers including Spotlight, E&S, Clark Rubber and Super Cheap Auto, this new Harris Scarfe Home store boasts approximately 800sqm of floor space and an enthusiastic retail team of 15.
Harris Scarfe is one of Australia’s longest trading retailers, with over 170 years of retailing experience. Harris Scarfe stores provide Australians with great brands at great prices. The new Harris Scarfe Home store focuses on the homewares categories offered by the retailer and received a warm welcome from local shoppers when it opened at HomeCo Northland.
Within this compact store, which customers find convenient and easy to shop, the Harris Scarfe commitment to a broad and deep range in core departments of cooking and entertaining, bathroom, bed linen and bed accessories means customers will find everything they need to embellish their homes. National and international brands make a statement about the Harris Scarfe focus on quality, as do private brands including ranges designed exclusively by Shaynna Blaze, Jane Lamerton and Master Chef alum Poh Ling Yeow.
Despite a disrupted retail industry in 2020 this new addition to the Harris Scarfe store network and the continued growth of the HomeCo tenants, including the quality brands opening at locations such as Northland, indicates the strength of the Large Format Retail sector.
“We have great confidence in the Large Format Retail sector, which is why the Spotlight Group will continue, over time, to enhance the Harris Scarfe store network,” commented Spotlight Group Executive Deputy Chairman Zac Fried.
“Harris Scarfe will benefit from the expertise that the Spotlight Group brings to its management and direction. We are confident that this first addition of ours to the Harris Scarfe network will engage local shoppers and attract new customers to the Harris Scarfe brand”, Zac continued.
In further positivity for the retail sector, HomeCo sites continue to provide Australian consumers in metro and regional areas with a compelling concept in value and convenience-based shopping. Every HomeCo site offers a unique mix of everyday needs and inspired lifestyle brands. For retailers the sites provide a sustainable trading model that entices customers who are attracted to the location, layout, resident retail brands and convenience of a HomeCo site.
“We’re thrilled to have the first Harris Scarfe Home to open under its new owners in HomeCo Northland”, said HomeCo Executive Chairman David Di Pilla.
