BCF Superstore in Townsville
Since its grand opening in November 2022, the Townsville superstore has surpassed our initial projections across all categories, including our expanded ranges in fishing, boating, 4WD, apparel and camping.
“Our ambitious objective was to create the greatest outdoor leisure store in the southern hemisphere, whilst modernising our brand”, said Managing Director at BCF, Mr Paul Bradshaw.
At 5,500 square metres, customer feedback and sales to date affirm the Townsville Superstore has well and truly accomplished this mission.
Product is at the heart of this store. BCF didn’t want to be gimmicky so they focussed hard on extending their offer in core and adjacent categories.
The superstore provides a staggering 27,000 SKUs across the store with 50 new vendors onboarded. This strategic move enabled them to broaden their reach across Australia and facilitate access to their extensive range both in store and online.
BCF know that the customers love choice when selecting outdoor products and the superstore concept is all about providing the most comprehensive product range they can offer.
The customers have acknowledged that they demand great brands and quality products. As a direct result of customer feedback, BCF worked with trade partners in Australia and around the world to ensure they could obtain the brands and products the customers wanted.
So far, the sales are showing that the products and brands on offer are in line with customers’ wants, and BCF are constantly working to ensure they continue to deliver the range that customers are seeking.
In addition to product, BCF wanted to provide a differentiated customer service model that allowed more time with the customer, to help them select the right product for their needs.
They are extending this by creating a customer experience zone outside the store where they house demonstrations and workshops, as well as rod repairs, reel servicing and a comprehensive fitment service.
Sustainability is another priority for BCF and not just for this store. Last year they refreshed the Sustainability Framework 2030 to enhance focus on people and the planet.
As part of the plan to reduce Scope 2 emissions, the store was fitted with solar panels and produces 401kw per year of solar energy and low emission lighting. BCF have also used materials in some of the fixtures and cleaning products that have a lower impact on the planet.
They have engaged with the Wulgurukaba people, the Traditional Owners of the land on which the store sits, about how to respectfully acknowledge indigenous culture in the store.
BCF commissioned bespoke artwork by an incredibly talented local First Nations artist, Stephen Oliver Sailor, which tells the story of the Rainbow Serpent and the creation of Australia.
They are also working with local First Nations community organisations to understand how to respond to local needs, including how to facilitate employment opportunities for First Nations people.
They are also incredibly proud of the dedicated zone for their partner OzFish, who are working on projects to restore Australian waterways.
BCF plan to open the second superstore at Kawana on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast in June.
