SPG Hervey Bay: A New Retail Hub on the Rise
The Spotlight Property Group (SPG) has ushered in a new era of Large Format Retailing with the development of SPG Hervey Bay, Queensland. The centre has established a vibrant new mixed-use retail and health services hub, offering more than 22,000 square metres of floor space on a large site of more than three hectares.
The design of the centre is a departure from traditional Large Format Retail development with its key distinguishing feature being the creation of two separate buildings that are seamlessly linked together to form an integrated precinct.
The main building is an indoor shopping mall with a simple footprint providing a convenient customer experience accessed from two main entry points and maximum exposure to all retailers both inside the centre and externally to the main highway. The building sits above a covered carpark providing 330 car spaces and is also linked to an external carpark of a further 100 spaces. The lower ground level also includes a Planet Fitness Health Centre of 2,000 sqm.
The main centre is focused on meeting the operational requirements of the three major Spotlight Retail Group (SRG) brands, namely Spotlight, Anaconda and Harris Scarfe and also includes major Large Format Retailers, The Good Guys and Early Settler. A complementary mix of smaller retailers and one of Queensland best café restaurants, Café 63, provide diversity to the overall mix and enhance the vitality of the centre.
The second building is a two-level Health & Services Hub which is focused on providing modern facilities supporting the needs of an aging population. Retailers on the ground level of this building include Wholelife Pharmacy, Country Care mobility retail and Hervey Bay Doctors Medical Centre.
The development of the building has been designed with its local community, climate and key operators in mind. A high degree of thought has been applied to the access requirements and mobility issues associated with a large and diverse population. Environmental features including mobility charging stations, parents changing rooms, end of trip facilities, and indoor and outdoor public seating adds to the sense of ‘place’ within the centre.
Speaking about the centre’s development, Brad Nash, Director at Blueprint Group Australia, said, “from inception to launch, the journey with SPG Hervey Bay has been remarkable. The opening of Anaconda, The Good Guys, Early Settler, and Planet Fitness have set a strong precedent, reflecting the centre’s commercial potential. As we look ahead and welcome further retail outlets to SPG Hervey Bay, we are ready to redefine regional Large Format Retail in the area.”
The development was undertaken with fellow LFRA members The Buchan Group Architects; Adco Constructions and Major Media signage and Amphis Commercial who have all contributed greatly to the overall success of the centre.
The SPG Hervey Bay Centre was completed in April 2024 and has proven to be an outstanding success within the community in terms of the positive feedback from patrons and the trading performance of all the tenants.
