De Luca Corporation takes on the ultimate challenge to help young people with high care needs

De Luca Corporation’s Managing Director Nic De Luca is passionate about contribution and creating value in the community.

Having been involved with Youngcare, a national not-for-profit organisation since its inception, Nic and De Luca have helped contribute to the provision of dignified housing solutions for young people with high care needs.

With continued support, De Luca have nominated two employees in 2021 to join team Youngcare and take on one of the biggest challenges of their lives.

For nine days, in what will be the ultimate Australian adventure challenge, De Luca will send Warren Kane (Site Manager) and Sam Rex (Contracts Administrator) to conquer the harsh weather conditions and endless sand dunes whilst walking more than 250km across the Simpson Desert.

The completely isolated environment, where there is little control over personal choice, provides a striking reflection of the challenges that young people with high care needs face on a daily basis.

One of the greatest areas of unmet need in Australia is with the suitability and appropriate supported housing for people with disabilities.

Currently, there are 12,000 young people being left behind in aged care, hospital rooms, rehabilitation centres and institutionalised accommodation, simply because there is nowhere else for them to go.

Warren and Sam, with the backing of De Luca aim to collectively fundraise over $70K and complete the Simpson Desert Challenge to boldly tackle this issue and help raise awareness and much needed funds to contribute to the building of more relevant and age-appropriate housing in Australia.
